Modular Expansion
A project that bridges tradition and the future.
Contemporary construction in the founding neighborhood of the "EINHEIT" housing cooperative.
MODULAR CONSTRUCTION SCHARFENSTEINER STRASSE 13
The modular addition at Scharfensteiner Straße 13 demonstrates how construction can be carried out in a resource-efficient manner while making use of existing structures—and in the process, creating modern living space. Instead of a completely new building, the project focuses on intelligently expanding an existing structure. This allows for efficient use of space, shorter construction times, and the targeted use of materials.
A particular highlight of the project emerged in the newly created living area on the upper floor: an extraordinary four-room apartment with approximately 100 m² of living space. The open floor plan creates a spacious living experience, making the rooms feel expansive, airy, and flooded with light. Generous windows—some of which extend from floor to ceiling—allow plenty of natural light to enter and create a modern, open atmosphere.
This particularly exciting investment project began in 2025 and was completed in 2026. The goal of the project was—and remains—to create a new standard of living while managing existing resources responsibly.
Great emphasis is also placed on quality of living when it comes to the apartment’s features: Light-colored materials and a modern design concept give the apartment a welcoming and timeless feel. The bathroom features a spacious, walk-in shower and a space for the washing machine—features that combine comfort with practicality for everyday living.
All in all, the result is a truly one-of-a-kind project: modern living space that isn’t being built on a greenfield site, but is instead cleverly integrated into the existing development—and at the same time sets new standards for living in the neighborhood.
Pilot Project
At the same time, the project opens up an interesting prospect for the future: The chosen construction method demonstrates that modular expansions are also possible on existing buildings. This creates new opportunities to carefully develop existing residential buildings and create additional living space—without losing the character of the neighborhood.
